precache apps

So here is what we want to do.

We would like to have as many of our apps available through softgrid as possible. Since our computers are open labs where any of our 46000 students can use them, we just give access permissions to the domain users group so that everyonce gets everything and we use other means to keep track of licensing.

We would like to have the computers cache the sequences at night, preferable when no one is logged in.

How best can we acheive this?

SFTTRAY /LOADALL works but doesn't work so well when there are publishing errors in the console. I am hoping that they can make this mechanism a little more robust in future releases.

Where do you place the SFTTRAY /LOADALL? Would putting it in the 'Start' for All Users be appropriate?

You could run it on each client as a sheduled task. You might have to run the task as an ID that has some network rights because I am not sure if localsystem has enough rights to do the refresh because it will not have any network security rights. Or you could try it as part of the logon script but that may have too much user impact.

I think you would have to run the task using an account that had permissions to use all of the apps you want to cache.

Are you referring to a service account that is added to each & every app AD group?

Yes, this command would be needed to run in a security context that had access to every application. The script does not need to launch them but it does need access to have the permissions to cache everything that is published.
