SMA / K1000 v. 9.0.270 breaks Dell Updates catalog?

Hello -

After upgrading our SMA to 9.0.270 last week, I've been unable to download and update the Dell Updates Catalog - each attempt fails with a "Error loading Dell Client Update Catalog" status and 64.29 MB listed for both Update Files and Unused Files.  I created a service ticket, and after multiple days of no response, finally got the following from the Quest tech:

"I'm sorry about the delay, to answer your question about Dell updates, unfortunately yes it is broken for now, and there is no ETA for a fix. This defect has been identified with ID K1-19994.

You can look for this ID in future release notes of KACE SMA, in section known issues or resolved issues:
https://support.quest.com/technical-documents/kace-systems-management-appliance/9.0%20common%20documents/release-notes

Please let me know if there is any further question or if additional assistance is required."

However, I cannot find any mention of that issue ID # anywhere on the Quest support site, or the IT Ninja forums.  The link provided also does not list that ID under Known or Resolved issues.  Has anyone else experienced this after updating to 9.0.270?

  • I believe your update to 9.0 is coincidental, I have an 8.0 KACE in our lab environment, is not downloading dell updates.

K1-19994, that link you have was released when 9.0 was out, probably they didn't saw this issue before up until now. - Channeler 5 years ago
    • the issue started with the rollout of the new Dell client catalog. It seems to be an issue with the catalog itself - Nico_K 5 years ago
  • Thank you for the replies. My belief this was due to the 9.0 upgrade came from communication I didn't include in my original post from the Quest tech, saying it was a known issue with that update.

However, I agree this looks more like an issue with the Dell Driver Feed rather than the SMA itself - I posted the same question to the KACE subreddit and received this in response from a mod identified as "Quest Staff":

"This isn't 9.0 specific. The Dell Updates feed is 100% managed and provided by Dell to us, and the latest version of the feed is broken. ETA on the next release that should fix the issue is 9/11/18. Until then, the Dell Updates feed will not sync. Unfortunately, there is no fix or workaround we can provide from Quest/KACE." - GeoffGetty 5 years ago
    • cool, that explains why my 8.0 box can't seem to download DELL updates drivers - Channeler 5 years ago
    • I'll also note that our 8.1 appliance has an error. This happened before, around the beginning of 2018, and the reason then was Dell. In fact, they rolled back the driver feed due to the bad code provided by Intel for the Spectre/Meltdown fiasco, and subsequently inserted into their BIOS updates. - ondrar 5 years ago
  • Dell has provided a new Client Catalog in the feed. You can force a download if needed by using the control panel Dell Update Subscription "Refresh Now" button. - KevinG 5 years ago
  • Confirming it appears the catalog is once again available - my SMA is now downloading the subscribed Dell Updates. - GeoffGetty 5 years ago

Dell updated the catalog so the "issue" is fixed now.
Just start the download manually and it will work again (if it worked before)
