Software being installed during patching

We have started to initiate patching on our Windows 7 clients using KACE. It appears that during the patching process, KACE is installing applications on clients, that we did not anticipate. As an example, installing Skype. I would prefer to only install updates to applications that are detected on the machine. Did we configure something incorrectly?

Check to make sure that you have "Include Software Installers" unchecked in your patch subscription. Either that or exclude it from whatever labels you are using.

I would start here. It sounds like you need to make your labels cleaner.

In the patch schedule , make sure you have "deploy all patches" unchecked. You should only have the patch labels in the "limit deploy to selected patch labels"

Comments:
  • ie your windows patches label (which you create as a smart label) - FergieMan 11 years ago
  • Thanks for the response. So obviously i need to limit deploy to: xxx right, instead of: none. How do i prevent Skype for example, from installing if i only narrow it to OS? - acoch 11 years ago
  • I think what i have to do is define the patches i want to deploy to all win 7 then, correct? That's what the label does. - acoch 11 years ago
  • Yes exactly. Use a smart label and only have windows 7 patches for example. Then create your smart label. Any new patches meeting that certeria will automatically go into that label. - FergieMan 11 years ago
