Software Packaging Solution

So here's the question;Does anybody have or use a software packager that can do what Prism Deploy Editor does?I need to be able to take a take a snap shot of the software installed then after the software is installed. Not using a scripted image or system image. And yes command lines are fine to a point but that takes time and I have around 300 peices of software for different users so streamlining this would be a lot easier. For example:Lets say you have autocad, bentley, navisworks installed and you want to capture all that software into a package then deploy it later to make the installs faster lust streaming lining installs. Because installing autocad takes about 10 minutes then bentley takes 20 minutes so on.Thoughts?P.S. Yes I've googled it. So please keep your smarta*8 answers out.

  • Have you considered something like ThinApp? - StockTrader 9 years ago
  • I don't think a monolithic package would take that much less time than separate ones. Plus, how would you then manage upgrades and patches?

Much also depends on how you intend to deploy the package(s). - anonymous_9363 9 years ago
  • Great point! Thats what I'm finding. It was a good idea at the time but now I think its just a waste.
Thanks for the input. - mikesharp1 9 years ago
  • Most apps these days are in MSI format, and this only allows one app to install at a time. Therefore using a monolithic install is frankly a waste of time and likely to cause more problems while solving none. - EdT 9 years ago
