Surface Pro 2 can't boot to USB key

I have a WinPE 4 UEFI usb key that I created when we received the first Dell Windows 8 tablets, which works fine for those.  The tablet will boot into our K2000 just fine.  However, we just got a Surface Pro 2 which will not boot using the usb key.  It recognizes it and attempts to load the boot files, but then I get the blue screen that says the signature of ahcix64.sys is not verified.  I can't figure out why both tablets don't give me the error if there really is a problem with my bootable KBE.

Has anyone been able to boot a Surface Pro to their KBE?  Was there any special steps that you needed to perform?

  • Yes, but I have totally rebuilt the usb key which I believe would accomplish the same thing. - nheyne 10 years ago
    • Did find that 8.0 and PE 4 will not work with the surface2 you need 8.1 and PE 5.0 (adk 8.1). According to Cory's post if you have kbe 3.6.0.0 you can upload 5.0 to the k2000.

  • Unfortunately, it still does the exact same thing. Kinda stumped here... - nheyne 10 years ago
    • You should then create a boot stick from the adk first and see that works. If it does I would look at the KBE over writing the default drivers during compile.

You can create one with the adk or just manually over write the files on the stick you have with ones from the adk structure.

      • That's exactly what I tried next, and it worked. I guess I will have to locate the ahcix64.sys driver and try to keep it from being overwritten. - nheyne 10 years ago
