Symantec Endpoint Encryption Framework and removable storage: I'm looking to push out the framework MSI and Removable storage

I'm looking to push the client MSI via K1000, new to Kace can anyone help with the silent install instructions please?

Third-Party Tool Deployment

Basics

Installation of the Symantec Endpoint Encryption client packages can be accomplished using any third-party deployment tool that supports the MSI format.

To avoid installation errors, make sure that when you create the client

installer packages that you save them to a local hard disk or other volume which has Full Control permissions set.

The client installer packages can then be copied to removable media, a network volume accessible to the client, or the local hard disk of the Client Computer. For large scale deployments, you can use the command-line method as a basis for scripted installations

Syntax

To execute the appropriate MSI, the following syntax should be used:

MSIEXEC /i "[path]\name of client installation package.msi" parameter

 File name

The following lines could be placed in a batch file to accomplish the installation of Removable Storage.

MSIEXEC /i "\\CADC-01\SYSVOL\PACKAGES\Symantec Endpoint Encryption Framework Client_x64.msi" /q REBOOT=ReallySuppress

MSIEXEC /i "\\CADC-01\SYSVOL\PACKAGES\Symantec Endpoint Encryption - Removable Storage Edition Client_x64.msi" /q

While I have no specific knowledge of Kace, general principles are

  1. generate the client package
  2. create a deployment in Kace that somehow first copies the MSIs to the machine before executing it
  3. the 2 msiexec command lines are what the Kace package should execute. You can probably write a script to execute them in order. Just make sure you either resolve the full path to the MSIs and put that in the commandline, or make sure your script's working dir is set to the directory it's executing from

Comments:
  • One would hope that the second MSI checks that the product installed by the first MSI exists before executing but knowing the hash that Symantec have made of previous EP releases, I wouldn't bet the farm on it. It's simple enough to add your own check in your transform, though. - anonymous_9363 12 years ago

You need to upload the msi(s) to kace. To do this manually install the symantec endpoint client software on a test box. Then find that client and refresh the inventory and find the newly installed symantec software. add/upload the msi files to their respect software record and then move on to step two.

Next go to scripting->configuration policy->MSI Installer Wizard in there you can specific the package in this case the symantec endpoint encryption client and set the options for the installer as list in you post. This will generate a script that will install the client as an msi and also give you a log file reporting on errors.

I hope this helps,
