Virtualization

It's elegance is definitely something I see clients get excited about plus some clients don't like the idea of deploying streaming servers so Thinstall integrates seamlessly into pretty much any application management infrastructure. I think this is a technology that will give SoftGrid a run for the money so hopefully when choosing a virtualization solution people take the time to perform an in depth evaluation of more that just one product. I think application virtualization is a complex enough solution that customers should take the time to properly evaluate and make the right decision by understanding how the technology works in the real world.

I agree to all your comments, but how do you do with shortcuts and file ass.?
Is it possible to get the "correct" icons in the startmeny and add/remove in the msi?

I´ve only been playing with a tril version.

You use a tool called thinreg.exe to register and unregister file extensions for a Thinstall package. It should be present with the other tools in the trail download. The file assocations and Add/Remove are done automatically if you build a Thinstall MSI and that is controlled by modifying the package.ini before you compile your Thinstall package. You can find a reference for those settings here.

Should also point out that under the covers the MSI wrap features of Thinstall simply use thinreg in an automated fashion as well...

Doh, I should have read the rest of the board before posting in product announcements. I guess that is what I get for late night message boarding while on the road.

I know this is a bit late to reply here, but have you guys checked out ThinApp (aka "Project Northstar") since EMC/VMware acquired it? Application Link and Application Sync are really cool and the Link feature should make it interesting to deal with .NET runtime needs.

I'm hoping their development team can stay focused and keep up with the regular quarterly (roughly) release schedule. A very portable and flexible technology to plug into an organization.
