Software Deployment Question

UnSigned Drivers?

08/20/2014 2114 views
I've been Re-Packaging an application which Installs Un-Signed Drivers.

What I thought is to disable the Driver Sensor & install the application. So, I'll not get UAC prompt which states drivers of this application are from un-trusted publisher. I can turn it on again once after completion of installation.

But, none of the commands to disable Driver Sensor didn't helped me to disable the driver Sensor.

What I heard is that the tools that we can use to sign the Drivers are blocked now by Microsoft.

Can anyone help me understand ways to install these Un-Signed Drivers?

  • If this is for a corporate install rather than for general resale, then you might want to consider creating your own signature key and signing the drivers with it. You would also need to add your signature authority to the list on the machine.

Is your UAC window color Red or Gray?
Gray colored UAC which asks
"Would you like to install this software?"
Can be solved easily by exporting & importing the .cer file into "Trusted Publishers" in CertMgr.msc

Red colored UAC which says
"Windows can not verify the publisher of this driver software" has to be dealt differently.
