Vendor MSI with same product code as old version?

Hi,

I got an application and they provided me the old version of the same application and informed me to install the old version before installing the new one. I can do that.

But, I observed that the product code for the old version and new version MSI were same.

What do i need to do now?

Thanks in advance..

  • could create a major upgrade in the new MSI ( new product code)
or can try to make this a minor upgrade , but you need to make sure you follow the minor upgrade rules.

If the new one won't run and install correctly as the vendor have prescribed because of the identical product code, the you need to push back to the vendor/supplier of the MSI.

They've clearly got something wrong, and whilst you could correct the problem for them it may make it more difficult for any 'correct' upgrades they produce in future.

  • They have mentioned to uninstall the old one and install the new. This works fine..
Still do i need to confirm? - vinodreddy10 10 years ago
  • If they told you to uninstall the old version then you have to remove it before to install the new one. - terebent 10 years ago
