Virtual app not using local DSNs

Hey Guys,

Just a quick question, we have an application that is locally installed however it is launched with virtual shortcuts so it bring up the application and launches it into the isolated name space.

However the issue I am seeing comes in when a user created user or system DSNs on the local machine they cannot see those DSNs with the virtual application? Any ideas as to what couldbe causing this? The virtual app should be able to see into the local registry and use whatever DSNs are created locally but this is not happening, any ideas why?

It's not 100% clear what you've actually sequenced if you're just pulling a local app into a virtual environment, but I suspect that you're suffering from the problem caused by not having a (dummy) DSN defined on your sequencer. In essence what happens is that any DSN which is captured during sequencing effectively overrides any local DSNs. If you can see the virtualised DSN in your package then that is almost certainly the case.

I'd recommend resequencing but only after creating a dummy entry on your sequencer prior to monitoring..

Hope that helps,
Danny

Hi Danny,

what I have is a package sitting locally on the machine then using virtual icons to launch the application into a virtual bubble. I can see DSNs and create user DSNs in the bubble fine, but the problem comes in when users create DSNs on the local machine then launches the application again the DSNs that were created locally do not appear in the bubble.

I have a dummy dsn created on my sequencing machine too which was used to create these icons.

Hi Danny,

Open your sequence in the sequencer and locate the proper registry key(s) under which the DSN's are stored, and maybe the INI files as well. If they are present in your sequence, either delete them if they do not contain any DSN by default, or otherwise make sure they are set to merge with local.
