check the refresh rate on the computer and also the default settings in the projector for screen settings.  If it is an older projector could be a resolution problem

At where I work we have a lot of probems connecting to TVs and projectors. Since we didn't spring for the fancy models a lot of the time resolution is the issue. Even though it works with VGA you might try lowering the resolution to a pitiful 1280x720 or even further to 800x600 (just to test at least) to see if that helps. Unfortunately it's not a fix, but sometimes hardware just won't spit out the higher resolutions we want.

I know of six types of cables. VGA (15pin D-SUB), DVI (DVID), HDMI, DisplayPort, S-Video, and RCA Video.

Do you mean an S-Video connection? If it is then I'd say use VGA over S-Video. It's only capable of 480i/p where VGA will handle 1080i/p. I also notice VGA cables are much sturdier than S-Video, some manufacturers give you these flimsy short S-Video cables.

Have you tried different cables? I'm sorry if this does not help but I've never heard of a SVGA cable.
