Supporting Windows Question

Win7 Remote Assistance w/o User Interaction?

08/07/2013 11077 views

What I'm trying to figure out is, with Windows 7, is it possible to create a remote assistance instance where the admin/helper can initiate the session without user interaction/granting permission to take control?

Google searches turn up documentation for doing this in Windows XP and some seem to indicate that the same method would work in Windows 7 but they aren't especially clear. That said, one write up recommended PsExec.exe in conjuntion with a program called Unattended Remote Assistance which I installed and configured on a test device but given that setup, it still requires user intervention.

There is no integrated solution for W7. I had the same problem. My solution was:

Give it a try. It is a very good remote contorl software for windows, linux and mac.

Not that cheap, but you can do a lot of things and the user doesnt need to accept.

An other solution could be, to deploy teamviewer on every machine. There is an option to connent without user interaction as well.

But dameware is better because the first time you connect to a client, the dameware client get installed and you dont need to deploy the dw-client to every machine.

We've had pretty good luck with TeamViewer. It can even be run without completly installing the full viewer.

Thanks to everyone chiming in with their thoughts.

It's looking like I have to use third-party applications to provide the solution I need. Has anyone ever heard of a successful alteration of system files that would allow this on Win7 though?

  • Check this tool http://www.systemtools.com/hyena/index.html It is very helpful! It is free and you can download it here: http://www.systemtools.com/hyena/download.htm
  • Depends if you want to spent money or not. You can get some pretty good control of your systems running SpiceWorks and UltraVNC if you want to go for super cheap (read: free) sys admin.

Outside of that you can look into big management applications like N-Able etc.

Bomgar can also be setup for unattended remote control of Windows 7 systems (And any other current Windows OS)
