Windows 11 capture and deployment questions?

My SDA and RSA are running the latest 9.0.144 version.  But for the life of me I am having a heck of a time trying to get a W11 image captured and deployed and have a few questions.

I've Loaded a laptop from scratch with W11, didn't try to debloat it or anything, sysprepped it just fine and then rebooted it back to the SDA to capture the image.  When it comes to it the only options it has for capture is the S: drive - there is no C like W10 had - so I suspect I've done something wrong there (which could be why it won't deploy).

Is there some documentation or something on how to capture and deploy a Windows 11 image from the SDA/RSA because everything that worked for W10 doesn't seem to work for W11 now and I can't find what I'm looking for by searching.

Eventually I'll go back and debloat/customize the image but I was just trying to proof of concept that the SDA will actually deploy W11 now that it supports it.

I would suggest using a VM to build\capture your golden images.

C is probably not assigned or not visible by the KBE

Make sure your KBE was built using PE11 and not PE10.

9.0 media manager is able to do this, just make sure you have it installed, along with the Assessment and Deployment Kit for Windows 11

  • I know I'm popping into a random old thread here, but struggling with getting a KBE created that has a bootable ISO for a Windows 11 VM so I can capture it as my gold image. I have Media Manager 9.0.23 installed on my physical Windows 11 22H2 PC, along with the proper Windows 11 22H2 ADK and WinPE add-on. I thought I had found the issue when I spotted the "UEFI ISO" selection under Advanced Options in Media Manager when uploading the KBE, but my Windows 11 VM still doesn't see my virtual DVD drive as having a bootable ISO present. I'm using VMware Workstation Pro 17 for managing the VM.

Any thoughts? I've seen some folks mention possibly using a Windows 11 VM as the machine to upload the KBE also, so that was going to be my next stab in the dark. And/or updating the SDA from 9.0 to 9.1? But it looks like 9.0 should be Win11 compatible for everything.

I can post in a new thread if preferred. Just found this in my searching. - rayken85 10 months ago
    • For VM hosts, only the ones supported are the ones tested to work fine.

Hyper-V running on Windows Server 2016 or newer.

      VMWare ESXi Host

      Nutanix Acropolis

If the same happens via Hyper-V with the same ISO, or via VMWare ESXi, I would suggest contacting tech support. - Channeler 10 months ago
