Windows XP SP3 clients will not sync time with Private Windows Server 2008 Domain

I have a private Windows Server 2008 Domain with XP x32 SP3 clients. Several of my clients will not keep synced time with my Domain Controllers. I am in the Pacific Standard Time Zone (GMT -800). We just experienced a Daylight Savings change. I have the box checked to automagically adjust for Daylight Saving changes. I have run the w32tm /resync command on all of the clients that are off time; the command completes successfully but the system will not hold the sync. I cannot sync my Domain to an external NTP source because my network is private (no outside connection). When I change the time zone to GMT -700 Arizona on the clients that are off time, I get the correct time; however this is obviously not the correct time zone that I am in. I have adjusted the BIOS clock but the system time is still 1 hour behind the correct time. The only other thing that I can think to do is check the CMOS batteries. Does anyone have any insight in this particular matter?

Fixed the issue. I needed to apply the cumulative time zone update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955839

Thanks to everybody for the suggestions.

Reboot the affected clients then check their event logs for any Group Policy errors, also try and run "gpupdate /force" on them which should run successfully.  Reset the Computer Accounts if gpupdate is unsuccessful.

It's possible it's been caused by the computer accounts losing trust with the domain, so they won't retrieve the correct settings or sync with the PDC.

  • I have tried doing all of these suggestions. There are no Group Policy errors in the event logs relating to time issues. I have reset the computer account. I have also replaced the CMOS Battery. This still has not resolved the issue. - Galvatron8 11 years ago

Are you receiving errors in the Event Log regarding the time sync issues?
