Windows7/OSD/Quicktime Error 0x80070643
Hello all,
I'm tryingh to install quicktime (quicktime.msi and the appleapplicationsupport.msi) during my Windows 7 OSD Tasksequence with SCCM. I install lots of packages during this install, but only the quicktime msi's fail. In the smsts.log I see a 0x80070643 error with nog explanation whatsoever. Can anybody help me out? I've checked everything setting more then once and they are exactly the same as all the other packages. Is there a porlbem qith the quicktime msi that doesn't allow installation during the running tasksequence perhaps?

Hi Sjoerd,
If you are absolutely sure that the SCCM programs are right, use msiexec's own logging on the Quicktime msi command line and see if the msi itself is causing the problem

Hey there,
Unfortunately, I've tried to log anything, but /Liev and then the logfilepath works when I run it manually. However it doesn't work when you run it in the tasksequence :S

In the program installing quicktime (the one you put in the task sequence), you can change the command line to something like:
msiexec /i Quicktime.msi <whatever customization you have> /qb /lv* C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\logs\Quicktime.log
This will be handled by the msiexec, and should work anytime. A task sequence isn't supposed to have influence on the command line of your program, in this case some msiexec parameters.

I finally got an msiexec error log. Main thing in there is:
Which is ridiculous becasuse it's just windows 7, nothing else :S Trying to install Apple Application Suppport now first, see if that clears the airways :S
MSI (s) (FC:2C) [10:53:49:801]: Product: QuickTime -- A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed.

Sounds like you got this issue.
A failed installation of Quicktime enters some reg keys that makes it think that it is already installed and rollback doesn't occur correctly. Also passing an MST appears to give an issue also.
I seem to remember the poster (Foxy - used to work with him) found the reg keys that could be removed to make Windows think it wasn't installed, they're not listed on the post, but I'm guessing it's going to be something to do with ARP entries and maybe something under HKLM\Software.
Hope this points you in the right direction,

Windows never really booted before I get that error, let alone any version of quicktime being installed.
I have a workaround wich removes the launchcondition respnsible for the error. After this, Quicktime works like a charm.

Hey Mundoog,
I use Adminstudio, but you can also use orca (look it up, it's from Microsoft) to create a transform. Or you could edit it directly, but keep a copy of the original just in case.
Look for the launchcondition tables en remove the NOT BNEWERPRODUCTISINSTALLED row.
No more error :D
