Wise error 1721

Hi...a problem I am running into lately is an error msg "Error 1721. A program required for this install to complete coud not be run." This error is generated during the Test and Run phase, after the compile. I have installed the app without Wise and it installs clean without a hitch. Is there something in the packaging I am missing? Should I turn off all Antivirus services before creating the package instead of just excluding the entries after the capture?

Are you running Wise and creating your packages on a clean machine? Also, am I understanding you that antivirus software is running on the machine that you are using to capture?

hey craig, thanx for the response...there is antivirus software on this PC but it is clean aside from that...turns out that everything I have read points to the windows installer needing an msicuu.exe from Microsoft...I ran that but the problem persists...turns out that there was a custom action running somehow(I don't remember adding it) that was causing the error...as soon as I removed the script all was well...so that being said, I am off to tackle Crystal 9...arrrrgh...

robco, no problem. Glad you got it figured out, and you put a thought in my head to watch for custom action issues.

I used to run antivirus software on the "clean" machine I used for repackaging, but it turned out to do more harm than good.

Now I use a clean VMware machine (aside from Wise Package Studio 5 being installed on it) with no AV, and it is one of the best investments I ever made for repackaging. Once I finish a package and hit the power off button on the VM, I know the OS is returned to a completely prestine state. You can always scan your packages themselves for viruses and trojans.
