x86 vs x64 Pre-Boot Environments and System Images
Needing some details on the KBE. In a previous job, we had an internal PXE boot system that did both Linux and Windows systems. The bootloader was x64 and deployed all images including 32bit drivers and system images with no issues.
My questions are that of the Dell KACE KBE. All of our images are in the 32bit KBE, including a few 64bit images and upon creating a new 64bit KBE, no images were visible when I booted to it. We're having to go back to the x86 KBE in order to continue using our previously created images. And so here are my questions:
1.) How can I, or can I at all, migrate the images over to the x64 bootloader from the x86 bootloader?
2.) Is the KACE KBE the same as previously mentioned at my old employer, in that the 32bit images work fine through the 64bit KBE as the bootloader is the only thing changing?
3.) Am I losing anything by using x64 images through the x86 KBE outside of less ram utilization on host system during imaging?

You can deploy them with the x32 KBE, sysprep and recapture them with x64 KBE. I do not know of any difference of HDD formats betweeen the two versions. I can add a x64 formated drive in a x32 system and still see everything and visa vesa.

Going through my questions and making sure I mark all answered stuff as answered. Went to bootkamp and one of the KACE folks described a way to edit a particular file in the images, but ya this would be the only really sound way.
Also, there isn't much benefit of even using the 64bit KBE unless my drivers and the KBE itself utilize more than 3.25gb of ram during boot up and loading. - aaronr 11 years ago
