Deployment Tip Summary

Sage ACT! 2011 is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application. It scales from one to over a hundred users. It integrates with Outlook, Gmail and other e-mail/collaboration products, Office 2003 and up, as well as social networking tools such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Two editions of ACT! 2011 are available: Pro and Premium. The Pro edition is for individuals and small workgroups of up to ten, with SQL Server Express bundled as part of the package to host the necessary database of contact and other customer information. The Premium edition is for larger organisations with more than 10 users, typically, having access to a full SQL Server host, although SQL Server Express can still be used. Premium edition customers also get browser-based access through ACT! Premium for Web plus enhanced security and data sharing features, team dashboards, group scheduling and advanced synchronisation tools.

Command Line

Hotfixes use a PackageForTheWeb (PFTW) installer with an embedded HotFixWrapper.exe. The PFTW package recognizes the /s and /a switches. The /s switch instructs the PFTW package to run silently. The /a ("add") switch allows you to add switches to the command line of the underlying process (normally Setup.exe of msiexec.exe, but here HotFixWrapper.exe).

HotFixWrapper.exe takes the following parameters: "-mode s" for silent install, "-type install" for installation, "-type uninstall" for uninstallation.

Silent install of the ACT Hotfix e.g. SP1 HF6:

ACT2011SP1HF6.exe /s /a -mode s -type install

Silent uninstall:

ACT2011SP1HF6.exe /s /a -mode s -type uninstall

A logfile is placed under "My Documents".
