Note
For those that do not wish to use the server console to push clients, or have clients that do not support this method of distribution, Norton Antivirus 7 Corporate Edition comes with its own tool for generating silent installation packages. This is the only installation option available for Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Window ME.

It is recommended that for each operating system, a single, self extracting, silent installation package is created.
The package must be created from the server which will be the parent server of the clients the package will be installed on.

1) From any workstation, connect to the VPHOME share of the parent server. (You do not need to map a drive.) The parent server is one of the computers you have installed the NAV Server software.

2) Enter the folder CLT-INST.

3) Run the program, Package.exe

4) Select the Target operating system.

5) Select: Create a silent installation package.

6) Select: Accept Setup.Wis Options for Silent Install.

7) Enter the destination folder.

8) Click Create.

The package will be placed in a folder called NAV32EXE in the destination folder you have entered. For Windows 9x/NT/2000, the package is called NAV732.EXE and is approximately 25 MB. Create packages for other OS's if required. Note, while creating packages, your computer's performance will be very slow. Place the packages in a shared folder on a common server which is accessible from all your client computers. At each client computer, first ensure any existing anti-virus software is fully uninstalled.

Copy the appropriate package to the local computer. Running the package over the network is known to cause problems such as an incomplete installation.

On Windows NT and Windows 2000 computers, no reboot is necessary following installation. No indication of progress is given during a silient install. After installation, disk activity will continue for several minutes while a automated scan is performed. On installation, the NAV client software will communicate with its parent server and obtain the configuration settings.

On Windows 95 and Windows 98 computers, the installation process will automatically reboot the computer when completed. No indication of progress is given during a silent install. When the computer starts again, the NAV client software will communicate with its parent server and obtain the configuration settings.

Following installation, it is not necessary to make any changes on the client computer. Configuration settings can be changed from the Symantec System Centre.

All clients should appear on the right panel of the SSC when you have selected their parent server.
