Add Bootable ISO to K2000 boot menu?

I distincly remember the feature of having a bootable ISO like an Ubuntu Live cd added to the K2000 boot menu when I tested K2000 in the April-May months. I am retesting it currently as a solution but I can't seem to find that feature in it anymore.

Am I mistaken that this was a feature before or is it something that has been removed?

It would be nice to add something like Ubuntu Live to the list of boot menu options as I work for an educational institution and some of the computer classes could benefit from this.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can do it. I've done it with both Darik's boot and nuke and Hirens boot CD. You create a KBE and name it whatever it will end be being, (Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc) You have to create the KBE from media manager. After you have created it, go into K2000 and export the package. (settings and maintenance -> package management -> export k2000 packages). After you export, go into the Samba share and pull down the pkg and xml file to your desktop. VERY IMPORTANT: Go delete the package from the k2000 webUI now. You need 7zip for this next step. Once you have 7zip installed, right click the pkg file and select open, or something along those lines. Do not extract, just open. Click through until you get to payload. Once you get there you will see an .iso named something like kbe0001.iso. Copy the file name. Delete the iso. Copy your bootable linux iso into the folder and rename it to the name of the previous iso. Once you have done this, close 7zip to apply changes. Go back to the samba share, put the pkg and xml in there. Next, go to K2000 WebUI and import the package the same way you exported it to begin with. Once you have done this, you can now use PXE with k2000 to boot into whatever bootable iso your heart desires. Like I said, I have done this with 2 different iso's and it has worked great both times. Credit given to dchristian for his post on how to upload DBAN to k2000 for PXE boot. I took his basic instructions and discovered you can use any bootable image you want. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

  • I have a boot-able Linux based ISO and I've followed the above about 5 times and it fails. Got DBAN to work, but not the other one, which is a local password reset utility, linux based. - jwdima 8 years ago

Linux is currently not supported on the K2000.
