Dashboard Widgets meaning
I wanted to see if I can get a better understanding of the Dashboard widgets on the K1000 (6.3.113397). More specifically the Patch Installation Progress, Patching Tasks Completed and the Critical Patch Compliance.
First off, the Critical Patch Compliance widget:
For example, assume I have 50 computers and 10 identified patches. Further assume that each of the 50 computers need the 10 patches. If all 10 patches are applied to only 1 computer, is Critical Patch Compliance going to be 100%, since from a patch perspective, they were all applied? The correct answer would be 2%.
Computers: 50
Patches identified: 10
Total patches to be applied across all computers: 500 (50 * 10)
1 Computer patched 10 times: 10/500 = .02
Which is correct? The 2% or the 100% for critical patch compliance.
Where do the numbers come from for the patch installation progress?
Where do the numbers come from for the patching task complete? Is this the % of the success column?
Thanks,
Andrew

My guess would be the following, although Patch statistics are notoriously flaky or difficult to define and report:
Patch Installation Process - this is the percentage of patches that have been deployed to machines,
(so if you have 100 patches in your catalog 65 have deployed successfully = 65%)
Critical Patch Compliance - This is the percentage of Critical patches within your DB that have been successfully deployed to machines
(so if you have 100 patches and 50 of them are critical, of which 20 have been successfully deployed = 40%)
Patch Tasks Completed - This is the percentage of tasks outstanding, where a task is a detect or deploy
(so if you have 100 machines set to deploy, 11 of them are still pending = 11%)
Again that is my understanding and I could be wrong but patch report is a very dark art, you are better off defining your KPI's for patch, then working out how to report on that KPI
