hi all

i know how to create a transform file for .msi, but is there a way to create some sort of answer file for .exe?

  • Not sure what antmar904 is trying to install but I'd like to create an answer file for McAfee 8.8. What I currently do is to double-click on SetupVSE.exe to launch the software. I then have to select Perpetual as the license subscription, accept the license agreement, select Typical install and the software starts installing. Thanks for any help! - lnovak 9 years ago

I often look into the .exe itself as well for more information. For example lots of .exe are simply wrappers for .msi which have standard silent install options so download yourself 7zip and see if extracting the contents of the .exe show that really it is nothing more then a .msi.

Exe's usually don't support transform files.

You may want to check to with the manufacturer of the program to see if they provide silent switches to install.

Not sure if I understood the question correctly, but I'll make a try.
Generally a Setup.exe uses the /r switch to create a .iss. This is "recording" your actions during the installation process and saves the setup.iss under C:\Windows, by default.
Is this what you had in mind? Or did I misunderstand the .exe part?

Wat software is it? That will help us know if it can be ISS scripted, or if its an embedded MSI, or some other setup.
There are several possibilities but the most common are:

Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
