Image old Pcs that do not have 512meg of ram

Right now we have to use 2 imaging systems. One the newere Kace 2000 for scripted installs of newer machines that have over 513 megs or ram.

We still have lots of old Dells that do NOT have 512 megs of ram. We have to use or old imaging system to image the older computers. We are moving to VDI and using Winflp on the old Dells.

Does anyone have a different way of imagin older computer that do not meet the 512meg requirment for a K2000? Looking at someway to upload an ISO to possibly do what I need so we would just have one imaging system.

External cd-rom drive and KBE loaded onto a CD seems to be the only option with the state that your hardware is in.

It's been a while, but when I had some old GX240s I built a seperate KBE for just that model. Including just the drivers needed to image that machine. It worked a few years ago. I'm not sure if it still would since recent updates. It's worth a shot though.

  • Yeah, we have tried that, but some machines have 384meg and just do not load the KBE. - mike.henderson 11 years ago
    • I remember some of mine with 256 and it worked. Like I said that was a few versions ago though. - dugullett 11 years ago
      • My guess is that this might have been possible before the release of 3.3 when the use of KPE, 2004/2005 PE and knoppix were retired. I'm pretty sure the minimum these days is around 768MB. - jknox 11 years ago

Have you tried booting from a CD or USB with the KBE loaded onto it?

  • USB not boot able on these old machines. Most of the CD drives do not work. - mike.henderson 11 years ago

put the drives in different systems and do not restart after imaging, move drives to old boxes and let post boot.

  • Kind of a pain. I would like to image from the network and not have to take things apart. - mike.henderson 11 years ago
