Office 2003 deployment (SP1)
Ok this is not a typical deployment question but I have nowhere else to ask this.
I have pushed Office 2003 to maybe a hundred workstations over the last 2 months via GPO. It has worked fantastic for me.
I recently updated my Office 2003 AIP to SP1.
I have had issues with 2 machines that I pushed Office 2003 installs to. I believe it was a new version of Adobe Acrobat that I installed on these 2 machines that prompted (for whatever reason) Office 2003 to look at its original installation point and grab a file. It was specifically looking for the Pro11.msi file.
Well since I changed the AIP to SP1, it keeps telling me that it can't find the original install point, even though I manually point it to the Pro11.msi.
My question is, does SP1 alter the AIP so much that the original install doesn't even recognize it exists? If so this kind of sucks. I had a plan to re-deploy with SP1 but now I have to make it a high priority and rush it out. Does anyone know anything about this?

In short the answer to your question is yes. Until you redeploy Office from the new updated AIP with SP1 any modification which looks back to the old AIP will fail (includes Detect and Repair and install on demand). Basically the version of the product changes after SP1 is installed hence the problem.
The exception is is you chose to cache the install files locally on the clients. When doing this it allows changes to the Office install on clients without the need of accessing the original AIP, but it does take more disk space at the desktop end.
If you have the disk space for your Admin Points I suggest creating two, one with the orignal non-SP1 files and the new one with SP1. That way you can deploy at your leisure without anything breaking.
