Post Installation Tasks for Drivers

I asked earlier about doing a post installation for the drivers that were not working during the scripted install. Now when it is going through its post installation tasks, 3 of the drivers pull up the "New Hardware Wizard" and I cannot make it silent, Im not sure if I am doing something wrong. Also when the video driver installation tasks goes to work (NVidia) it says that it cannot copy the files because it cannot locate them. What am I doing WRONG!?!?!

Update, on top of that, I have to manually restart the computer whenever it loads to complete the installation, also the Service Pack 3 installation is not completing. It seems after the computer does it first boot and I have to restart it myself, it does not complete the rest of the post installation tasks

I have 2 reboots during my post installs

Both a "Shutdown -r -f -t 1" commands to force shutdown right away
Then I add a "Reboot dummy" script, basicly a "Ping 127.0.0.1 -n 10" as the next one, because it seems to skip that after a reboot, maybe that is why yours doesn't work.

I created a VBS script that keept running untill there was nothing left to install that is run right after the agent is installed and right after the 2nd reboot to be sure everything is installed, I don't have it right here now so I can post it but I will try to do it tomorrow from work.

you can find a script you can run to kill the New Hardware wizards ;)

What exactly is your dummy script doing?

I am having some issues installing some drivers/control panels (IDT HD Audio and NVIDIA) in succession and I think that this thread might lead to some answers for me.

my dummy script is just a batch file that pings 20 times to localhost

ping 127.0.0.1 -n 20

if it runs then it only delays the process 20 sec if it doesn't and that is offen the case after a "shutdown -f -r -t 1" then it's fine nothing important is missed :)

Can you post your installation task details, along with a download link to the driver[s] in question?

What I've done is all drivers that requires exe file like some gfx cards is not located on the Kbox2000 driver store, I have created a software package on my kbox1000 for that.

If you look on the 2000 driver store and search for files containing "nvidia" then delete the ".inf" file, recache the driver store then I'm sure it will work if you install it as a post install task or a install package with your 1000 box

If you NEED it to install right away then I would search for the inf file.
Open it, go to the part called "[SourceDisksFiles]" the files listed here are the files it cannot find, make sure they are in the folder with the .inf file

I hooe that helps :)

Which model NVIDIA card are you trying to install the drivers for? I recently worked through an issue with the HP 8440p which uses the NVS3100M card and IDT HD Audio drivers. The two pieces of hardware are linked for audio and video and I was finding that the K2000 was not properly installing the drivers for those, nor the modem which is also integrated into the audio card, I believe. I created 3 post installation tasks that installed the necessary drivers, I think it required one reboot. I could have done it in one task but I wanted to keep it modular in case I run into something similar down the road.

That's good advice about removing the unnecessary drivers from the driver share and recaching.
