Reuters 3000 Xtra 4.5.2

Has any one done an MSI for Reuters 3000 Xtra 4.5.2? Is there any important point to note? Is there anything different or difficult about the Reuters packager as I have come across packagers who tend to run away from it?

I am working on creating an install. Have you started yet? My testing so far indicates that this is a mildly silent install in that you can stop the user from being prompted for information but you still get all the screens. I have only been working on this for a few hours so far. It is not a pretty install that is for sure.

hi

we abandoned this idea.
You could create an silent installation and then launch the package as a "wrapped" MSI package.
Now, we use Kobra on a terminal server solution.

Hi,

We toyed with the idea of creating an MSI for deployment of 3000 Xtra, but found that using Reuters own silent deployment tool (RDMC) was a much better option.

It's a little difficult to get your head round at the beginning, but stick with it and you'll be fine.

I have a reference document for 4.5.3, as it was the only one on their website, but I can't attach it here - the URL is https://customers.reuters.com/a/support/paz/pazDocs.aspx?dId=171725

Drop me a PM with your email address if you can't access the Retuers Customer website.

Kind Regards,

Hi,

It is the syntax of the silent configuration file I am interested in. We install to C:\Program Files\BLP and I don't know how to force the install there. I know you can use the /cfg=config.ini switch, but I don't know how to structure the ini file.

I got the 3000Xtra MSI install working fairly nicely. I also figured out how to make some of the optional components we do not want not install, which is nice. I was planning on using RDMC to reconfigure the install after the MSI setup is comlete. That seemed like the best suggested method from Reuters.

The Bloomberg information is good to know since I have to work on that as well. I know Bloomberg updates itself. Has anyone looked into the permissions required for that function to work?

I think you need change permissions on
1) the blp folder
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bloomberg l.p.
3) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Bloomberg DDE Server

@nookz: sorry, I don't know.

Run through the bloomberg setup. When it finishes, go to your temp directory. You want the file called setup.blp. That has all the settings in it.

I can get it to install using the RDMC, but can you get it to uninstall?

Never bothered trying. I cannot think of a reason that I would want to offhand unless you hate upgrades.
