Software Deployment Question

source redirection of MSI packages

11/12/2004 3700 views
We were using Computer Associates Sofware Delivery Option(SDO) to send out our MSI packages. We are now switching to SMS 2003. I am trying to figure out a way to redirect our source for old MSI packages from CA SDO to SMS 2003 without having to import all our old packages into SMS 2003. The old packages I am referring to are packages of old versions that we no longer use. Basically, if we try to uninstall an old package through add remove programs it can't find the source because we are no longer using SDO and the place where the MSI's once resided does not exist anymore. So on the uninstall it is looking for the old source of the MSI from when it was originally installed. I do not want to have import all our old MSI packages to be able to uninstall an old MSI. Any help or ideas would much appreciated. Thank you in advnace.

Dim oInst

Const PRODCODE = "{350C97B0-3D7C-4EE8-BAA9-00BCB3D54227}" '(webfolders)
Const USER = "" 'leave blank for "Machine" install
Const NEWSRC = "D:\MySource\"

Const INSTALLLEVEL = 65535
Const msiInstallStateAbsent = 2

Set oInst = CreateObject("WindowsInstaller.Installer")

oInst.ConfigureProduct PRODCODE, INSTALLLEVEL, msiInstallStateAbsent

Set oInst = Nothing

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the script could easily be amended to loop through all installed MSI packages, and add a new source for each one (to be used at a later date).

You could specify a root source folder, and copy every package in a subfolder named after the "packagecode".
